The 3241 Foundation’s Poverty Alleviation Programme was built around one simple truth: no family should have to choose between feeding their children and keeping the lights on.
On a regular basis we support entities that help families across the South of Johannesburg and greater Gauteng. Each parcel contains enough staple ingredients to sustain a family of four for two weeks — maize meal, cooking oil, canned goods, rice, and where possible, protein.
But food parcels alone do not break the cycle. That is why we also support programmes that also assist with vocational training opportunities. A single mother who has never had a formal skill can, within three months, have a urban farming certificate and her first paying client. A young man who dropped out of school at sixteen can learn irrigation and composting skills and find work at a farm or nursery.
We call it relief plus resilience. We meet people where they are — then we walk with them toward independence.
Behind every statistic is a name. A face. A family that chose to keep going.
